What happens during dog grooming session at Woofers?
“Grooming is an essential health maintenance activity that is fundamental to the welfare of many companion animals.”
A full grooming session is tailored to your dog’s size, coat type, and temperament, but typically includes:
Consultation & Assessment - We start by discussing your dog’s needs, coat condition, and any special requests. Each dog is treated individually with their best interest in mind.
Gentle preparation - Brushing out knots and loose hair, checking for matts, checking nails, ears and skin.
Bath - all shampoos and conditioners are prepared after assessment to ensure the highest efficacy.
Blow-drying - Blow-drying with professional equipment, with attention to noise sensitivity and comfort.
Clipping, Styling & Trim - Breed-specific cut or style of your choice, hygiene trim around paws, sanitary area and eyes. Coat scissoring, clipping or trimming based on the dog’s coat type.
Paws & Nail Care - Nail trimming and filing for comfort, paw pads trim for better grip and hygiene
Finishing Touches - final brushing and styling, ear cleaning, polishing the look and lots of praises for your pup.
No rushing or forcing - sessions are paced around your dog’s comfort to ensure a positive grooming experience. If there is an issue you will be notified immediately. Sessions can be longer or shorter then suggested in the service booking depending on the above criteria.
Dog Grooming FAQ
Understandably you might have a lot of questions about dog grooming. I encourage education and expanding your knowledge about how to best take care of your dog. I have compiled and answered some of the most frequent questions about dog grooming.

The frequency of grooms for your dog can be quite individual. Here are some factors to consider:
1. Dog’s breed (different breed groups have different needs - a Labrador for example will most likely won’t need a full groom every 4-6 weeks like a Yorkshire terrier or other breeds that have longer coats and are more prone to matting.)
2. General health of the dog - if your dog has dermatological issues then the need for targeted treatments and grooming session will be higher - treatments for alopecia or other dermatological issues. Hormonal changes also effect coat& skin health of your dog and might increase the frequency of grooms.
3. Your lifestyle - Do you travel often? How often do you brush your dog’s coat? Does your dog often swim in lakes or takes lovely mud baths in the rain? Is the dog an outside or inside dog? All of these and other questions influence the grooms frequency.
4. Competitions and Breeders
Depending if your pup is competing in competitions or are being bred for future litter of puppies the frequency and types of products will differ.
By following regular grooming schedules is an important part of maintain your dog’s health and well-being.

Generally short-haired breeds may only require brushing once or twice a week. However breed with longer coats might require daily brushing or at least matting prevention (cutting matts or tangles before they are unmanageable). A good rule of thumb is to pay attention to the high friction areas - like armpits, belly, inner thigh, tail and behind the ears.
-
If you have no special needs regarding your dog’s health and coat type (medication, calming tablets, etc.) then there is not that much for you to prepare before hand. Every groomer will thank you a lot if you exercise your pup before and take them out for their business so they are calm and their needs are met before the appointment.

I generally do not recommend the owner to attend the grooming sessions. The reasons are simple. Dogs feed of of your emotions and energy - if you are nervous they will feel your nervousness and react. I am also working with sharp instruments and I need the dog to be focused on me and work with me during the groom and not be distracted by looking around. If you would like to schedule a 1-1 session to walk you through and learn the process of grooming your dog then that is a different scenario. There you might work on your dog yourself and have guidance and help from me.
-
Duration of grooms depends on the dog’s breed, coat and service requested. It can range from 1.5 hours to 4 hours. Generally short haired breeds like a pug or a lab will take less time then long or curly coats like a poodle or a husky.
-
Dog grooming as an industry is generally unregulated. Be careful to choose groomers that are certified by trusted institutions - state certifications, EU certified institutes, etc.
-
Dog’s nails should be trimmed monthly. It also depends on your dogs lifestyle - long walks on pavements? Then your dog might have their nails trimmed naturally from the walks.
-
